Mesothelioma is a rare but dangerous form of cancer. Between 1999 and 2005, the cancer took the lives of 18,068 people, increasing over from 2,482 deaths in 1999 to 2,704 in 2005. Though considered rare, this cancer still affects far too many people.
Over that 6 year period, 80.8% of the deaths were males. This is because occupations that involve construction or manufacturing are most likely to expose workers to asbestos. However, that asbestos has been taken home by workers, exposing family members.
