Elementary school undergoes major renovations, asbestos abatement

Redding Elementary School in Connecticut has undergone renovations inside and out in order to prepare for new school year, one of the renovations that was done was the removal of asbestos.

The flooring of the school contained asbestos in the glue holding in the tiles of the floor. Asbestos abatement had to be done is the cafeteria, computer lab, main hallways, main office, exercise room, and staff lounge.

Asbestos was also discovered in the ramps that lead to the classrooms. All of the removal projects will be finished before the first day of school inĀ  order to ensure that students are not around when the toxic asbestos material is airborne. Exposure to airborne asbestos can lead to lung diseases such as mesothelioma or asbestosis.
