Cooper industries to pay over $300 million to settle asbestos claims

Cooper Industries, a maker of electrical products for utilities, has announced that the company will be paying $307.5 million to a fund that will settle all claims related to asbestos with Pneumo Abex LLC.

The settlement comes from personal injury claims that are related to asbestos exposure. Asbestos, which is now partially banned, was once used frequently in the manufacturing industries. The terms of the settlement state that the Cooper subsidiary will pay $307.5 million and a parent and another affiliate will pay $5 million and 15 million.
