The New York headquarters of the United Nations will now be undergoing a $2 billion renovation project. This project includes asbestos abatement and window panes that are ‘blast-proof.’
A majority of the renovations will be security enhancements that will be put into place in order to combat against terrorists concerns. Officials have stated that terrorists have made threats against U.N. building at increasing rates and these measures are going to be put in place in order to protect employees.
There has been some controversy throughout the renovation project and one issue involves the U.N. Staff Union. Union members have stated that officials with the project broke promises involving the asbestos removal of the building because they began the abatement without removing employees first.
