Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

Indirect exposure to asbestos materials

In some situations, family members are at risk of developing mesothelioma cancer when highly dangerous asbestos dust is indirectly passed to them. Families should know that people can be indirectly exposed to asbestos in the following situations:

  • Asbestos dusts sticks to the clothes or shoes of family members and is transferred to others by touching or close contact
  • Old buildings that are being demolished by unqualified contractors nearby
  • Asbestos dusts that gets lodged in the fur of household pets

Mesothelioma is a fatal illness that is frequently caused by indirect exposure to asbestos dusts. If you are diagnosed with mesothelioma, working with a lawyer can be an essential aspect of a successful claim to compensation you may be able to make on negligent parties in order to hold them liable for your suffering. Students and school staff likely exposed to asbestos in Cedar Rapids

Reports coming from Iowa State authorities say that Washington High School students and employees were possibly exposed to harmful asbestos during a renovation project in 2014. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Cedar Rapids Community School District and an asbestos removal company failed to safely remove and treat asbestos-laden materials before conducting renovations.

A legal action is being planned by the DNR after discovering that students and school employees were placed at risk of exposure as many as three times during the renovation project. The school district claimed they never compromised the safety of their students and employees during the project, and officials have stated that there have been no reports of those involved testing positive for asbestos exposure.

Asbestos is an incredibly dangerous and pervasive chemical that can cause serious illnesses in those exposed to its dust. If you or a loved one is suffering from mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos, you may be entitled to compensation for medical treatments and suffering. Citations issued to San Antonio employers for asbestos violations

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently issued citations to three renovation contractors in San Antonio for exposing their employees to asbestos in the workplace. According to reports, Roscoe Properties Inc. and FBZ Broadway LP were both cited by OSHA for violations of deliberate negligence in detecting the amount of asbestos in a workplace. OSHA also cited One Eighty Construction for insufficiently training their workers in proper asbestos removal techniques. Employees of all three commercial real estate renovation firms were believed to have been exposed to asbestos while working on an apartment complex.

OSHA director for the San Antonio area, Alejandro Porter, had harsh words for the contracting firms, saying “There is simply no excuse for continuing to expose workers to this danger.” Porter also said that employers are responsible for ensuring that their workers are protected from such hazards.

Sadly, an unfortunately high rate of construction and renovation workers are exposed to asbestos, and many contract mesothelioma as a result.
