Four companies in Worcester are expected to settle a $129,000 fine for improper asbestos handling during demolition projects, an article of patch.com stated on April 1.
According to reports, Patriots Environmental failed to comply with safety precautions and proper procedures for asbestos handling while conducting demolition projects. The company allegedly was negligent while removing materials from a house that contained asbestos. The lawsuit, originally filed by the Attorney General’s Office in 2014, was later amended after it became apparent that the owner of Patriots Environmental also owns three other companies, one of which failed to settle a $54,000 fine after being assessed by environmental authorities. The companies were given until November 2018 to settle the fine.
Negligence in asbestos handling during demolition or construction works, according to Attorney General Maura Healey, may result in serious health hazards. Asbestos inhalation can cause mesothelioma, a rare respiratory cancer that is often fatal. However, if you think that you have contracted mesothelioma due to other parties’ negligence, a lawyer may work on your behalf.
