Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

Gene Test to Predict Survival Odds in Surgery

Any surgery has certain risks associated with it. This is true of surgery to remove mesothelioma tumors as well. Because there is so much danger involved, it must be weighed against the benefits. Some people are much more likely to benefit from surgery than others. However, figuring out who those patients are has been difficult in the past.

Now there is a new gene test that can help predict the prognosis of surgery in a mesothelioma patient. The test focuses on four gene ratios and is much safer than biopsy. Before the invention of this test, learning the stage of the cancer and how far it had spread was the best way to determine whether surgery would be helpful. However, that procedure was invasive and dangerous as well.
