Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

Study Investigates Link Between Taconite and Mesothelioma

A 3-5 year study conducted by the University of Minnesota is currently underway to investigate the high rate of mesothelioma and other lung diseases of taconite miners in Minnesota’s Iron Range area.  The $4.8-million study will involve tests on 1,200 miners and 800 spouses of miners, and will hopefully finally determine the extent of the link between exposure to taconite ore and the development of mesothelioma and other forms of lung disease.  The medical examination of the miners and their spouses has already begun, slowly at first, but for those who have long advocated an official study, it is already a hopeful prospect.
