Waterloo Community School’s seeks to use part of budget to pay for asbestos removal.

There will be a meeting to the board in Des Moines to approve the increase unspent balance of the budget. The project will work with Lincoln Elementary School and East High School and other minor projects. The board meets a 6 p.m. Asbestos was previously used to prevent fire, until it was found that exposure to the material can lead to serious diseases.

UK Man Dies of Mesothelioma Three Decades After Asbestos Exposure

A pipelifting apprentice in the UK has died of mesothelioma, three decades after his exposure to it.

The 71-year-old worked as an apprentice at the Warrington cotton mill. He repeatedly had to use a hammer to to dislodge the steam pipes. The pipes were covered in asbestos and the hammering would cause a cloud a asbestos to fill the air. After leaving the cotton mill, he was no longer exposed to asbestos. Mesothelioma is an aggressive, incurable cancer which is caused from breathing in asbesots particles.

66 Companies Named in Asbestos Lawsuit

A man and his wife are suing 66 companies for allegedly exposing him to asbestos and causing his asbestosis and mesothelioma.

The couple claims that the defendants failed to warn him of the dangers of asbestos contained in manufactured products. The couple is seeking damages for pain and suffering, medical treatment and drugs, loss of earning capacity,shortening life expectancy and more.

South Florida Bridge May Be Contaminated with Asbestos

The Summerlin Overpass in in South Florida is being investigated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Absestos is a toxic material that is known to cause of serious illnesses when inhaled.

The overpass cost $25 million to build and is no roped off with caution tape while is is being investigated. The contractor who worked on the bridge has had previous trouble with asbestos. A few year ago, the company was forced to clean up asbestos at a job site.

The investigation continues to determine whether the amount of asbestos exceeds the legal amount.
