South Florida Bridge May Be Contaminated with Asbestos

The Summerlin Overpass in in South Florida is being investigated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Absestos is a toxic material that is known to cause of serious illnesses when inhaled.

The overpass cost $25 million to build and is no roped off with caution tape while is is being investigated. The contractor who worked on the bridge has had previous trouble with asbestos. A few year ago, the company was forced to clean up asbestos at a job site.

The investigation continues to determine whether the amount of asbestos exceeds the legal amount.
