State investigates UConn in asbestos handling

A state agency is investigating the possibility of improper handling of asbestos while renovating the president’s office at the University of Connecticut.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration could fine the university for breaking asbestos handling laws. A report said university officials threw asbestos-laden materials out the window of the office. Two months later, six employees were sent to the hospital for medical screening. The investigation will include interviewing employees and university officials who were involved in the project and review asbestos records that was done and medical records.
