Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

Boulder high school remains closed following asbestos discovery

A high school in Boulder, Colorado remains closed today following the discovery of what appeared to be asbestos in the girl’s locker room around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Tests for the presence of asbestos detected asbestos fibers in the air near the girl’s locker room but returned negative results for the rest of the school. Officials say they are determined to work throughout the night to remove the contamination from the air with the goal of reopening the school by tomorrow.

“We will only reopen when the school meets all the state health requirements and all tests are negative and the school is deemed safe for students and staff,” St. Vrain Valley School District spokesman Poynton said.

The girl’s locker room area will remain closed off for the rest of the school year until it is cleaned and renovated over the summer.
