Montana miners receiving nearly $43 million in settlements

Miners in Libby, Mont. areĀ  nearing the end of an asbestos settlement that is close to $43 million. The claims state that health officials did not warn the miners of the toxic material that were in the vermiculite mines.

Hundreds of workers have become ill or been killed after suffering from an asbestos-related disease. The mine owned by W.R. Grace & Co. sickened many over the past decades. Nearly 1,125 victims are involved in a deal that would release the state from liability. The payments are ranging from $21,500 to $60,700.
