Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

Department of Defense grants $16mil for mesothelioma studies

For the fourth year in a row, the US Department of Defense has granted funding to  research the causes and treatments of mesothelioma, along with other illnesses such as colorectal, bladder, kidney, and pancreatic cancers.

About a third of mesothelioma cases diagnosed each year occur among veterans. Mesothelioma affects many veterans who served in the Navy, as asbestos was once used as a cheap insulator in ships. Veterans were exposed to asbestos when dismantling or repairing the ships.

The Department of Defense funding has furthered the research in early detection, new therapies, and clinical trials of vaccines for those who suffer from the illness.
