Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

Twenty-one year old diagnosed with mesothelioma

A 21-year-old man has recently been diagnosed with mesothelioma, proving to be an exception to the pattern that the rare form of lung cancer only affects those above the age 50.

The man, a former captain of his high school’s football and hockey team, found out in February that he had peritoneal mesothelioma. Fundraisers have been set up to help the family pay for medical bills. He is currently receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

It is unknown how the young man developed the disease. Mesothelioma is primarily caused by inhaling asbestos particles and is usually dormant for years. This is the second reported case of a person under the age 25 being diagnosed with the cancer.
