Mesothelioma or Asbestos Question?

What are the two types of asbestos?

Asbestos minerals have been widely used in many industries due to its characteristics that could strengthen materials and make it fire or electric resistant. It is a mineral found in rocks and soils and is mainly made of oxygen and silicon. People should know that asbestos can be classified into two types based on their minuscule fibers.

Asbestos can be classified as “chrysotile” when the fibers are seemed to intertwine with each other spirally. Chrysotile only comes in white color and it is considered to be the common asbestos type used in construction. The second type of asbestos is “amphibole” and it could be distinguished from chrysotile if the fibers look similar to needles. Amphibole asbestos has five subtypes depending on the fiber color appearance.

Though asbestos has proven its effectiveness in strengthening materials used in everyday lives, it has been linked to a rare lung cancer called mesothelioma. Such cancer has no cure and a patient diagnosed with it may only live for a couple more months.
